Not to sound rude, but we can’t really help you know EVERYTHING about bows here. I’d suggest a library, or perhaps an archery range. At this point, you’re going to have to read AND ask for advice in person, because there’s very little learning that can be done without photographs and/or in-person instruction.

Go to an archery range if you can find one, and keep your ears and eyes open and your mouth closed. Be prepared to learn.

Also, reading some books about archery will give you a basic introduction that will be far better than anything random strangers online will be able to give.

When bowhunting you NEED camo. You have to move alot. Before each season go to a store and get the draw weight and draw length adjusted for how you grew and practice. You realy should have a quiver so you have arrows ready. One VERY important thing you almost NEED is a release. Pick a good one (not spring) you need to have a smooth trigger pull. I recomend going to a range where a profesional can help you sight in your bow. From a treestand always bend by your hips DO NOT bend your arms. Tilt your upper body toward the deer or animal. Trust me it will mess up your shot. If you need any more help email me at ryanlowe999@yahoo.com

First off don’t get caught up with the brand or speed of a bow. I made that mistake 15 years ago and now have a bow that I am not as accurate with as I wish I was. (All in the kill zone but I would like tighter groups) Go to a bow shop that will let you “try on” a few different bows and see what you are comfortable with and shoot well.

Make sure the bow is set to your draw leangth and that the arrows are as well.

Don’t try to be a “big man” and get a bow that is to heavy (Poundage draw weight) for you, the action you have to make to draw it will scare the animals away and you will not be able to shoot accurately.

When you start shooting start off with maybe a dozen shots a day and increase from there, remember you want good form and to create muscle memory and if you push to much you will create muscles that have remembered bad shooting form.

Start out at 10 yards and when you are making good shots at that range move back 5 or 10 yards. You will notice you make wider groups so shoot at that distance till you are putting together good groups then move back again. Repeat this til you are no more than 35 yards back. (You don’t want to shoot an animal further than that)

Try to get a sling for the bow that will go around your wrist and then you can shoot with an open bow hand. This helps because you are making contact with a smaller amount of hand on the bow and there is less that can effect the bow and throw your shot off.

Get a bracer A.K.A. arm guard for your bow arm to A. protect the string from hitting your arm (very painful) and B. they will keep loose clothing out of the way of your string so your shot is not deflected.

Find someone that knows what they are doing if you can, they can be of great help. Try your local sportsman/woman’s club or the bow shop itself.

Place your feet roughly shoulder leangth apart.

Sorry I was in a car wreck so I was never able to shoot competitively so I am of no help there.
